| ¡¡¡¡Land Resources and Favorable Agricultural
Conditions: Ningxia is privileged with prominent agricultural
advantages. It has 19 million mu (3.166654 million acres)
farmland, per capita 3.5 mu (0.583331 acres), one of the
top four in China. Ningxia abounds in rice, wheat, corn
fruits and vegetables. Among them, rice is the most famous
produce, known as ¡°Pearl in the Northern Frontier¡±. In
addition, there is over 10 million mu (1.66666 million
acres) farmland to be exploited. Ningxia is also one of
the ten top pastures in China, with more than 40 million
mu (6.66664 million acres) natural prairie. The Yellow
River spans 397 km in Ningxia and the average flux is
32.5 billion cubic meters, which results in obvious irrigation
advantages in the region. An ancient saying goes, ¡°Ningxia
Plain benefits greatly from the Yellow River.¡± Weichan,
a famous poet in Tang Dynasty wrote in his poem ¡°A garden
abounding in fruits sits under the Helan Mountains, A
southern type of scene in the northern frontier indeed.¡±
With flat and fertile land, favorable climate and geographical
conditions, Ningxia is one of the four self-sufficient
irrigation areas with over 6 million mu (9.99996 million
acres) irrigated land as well as one of the seven commercial
grain bases with the total stable production of over 2.7
million tons. Ningxia is also the crucial aquatic products
base for northwest of China. |
