industry. Taixi coal is famous for its “three lows and six highs”
in the world. It is the high-quality resource of active charcoal,
high-quality carbon, electrode paste, and carbonized silicon.
Its has favorable development potential, good market and high
profits. The non-baking coal ( nicknamed is Xiangzhazi) in Ningdong
ore district is used as high-quality resource for coal converting
petro because of its typical characteristics, such as its specially
low ash, low sulphur, low phosphorus, middle and high amount
of heating, high chemical activeness, supporting some important
projects of Ningdong Energy Heavy Chemicals Base, such as its
coals and carbon’s indirect liquefaction, coal-based CH3OCH3,
coal-based methanol etc. Ten other by-products can also be produced,
such as alkane, hydrogen, wax, hydrocarbon, and benzene, etc,
which can prolong the chain of estate and increase the value
added. With the advantages of the rich resources, Ningxia can
be developd into an influential base of coals and chemicals
both in China and through the world.
Natural gas chemical industry. Located in the Erdos basin,
Changqing Gas Field is one of the ten gas fields with over 1
000 billion cubic meters storage, and its distance for supplying
the gas is very near to Ningxia. At the same time, there are
rich storages of natural gas and of coalbed gas. In addition,
the natural condition is favorable for developing the natural
gas industry because it is near the city and surrounded with
water and with flat heath. The pipe line for transporting gas
in Ningxia is the biggest industrial user with 0.8 billion cubic
meters of transporting gas annually at present. The 2nd pipe
of transporting gas is also on the way of construction. It is
schemed that the consuming amount of gas in the region will
be up to 3 billion cubic meters till 2020. At present there
are two sets of macro-mode facilities of natural gas and chemical
fertilizer with 300 000 tons of synthesis ammonia. After extending
the energy, the annual output of urea can be up to 1.6 million
tons; the 3rd set with capability of 400 000 tons of synthesis
ammonia and 800 000 tons of urea is on the way of building-up.
Ningxia is to turn into the biggest base of natural gas fertilizer.
With natural gas as the the raw material， many value added products
have been produced, such as methanol, ethylene, acetylene, acetic
acid, butanediol, formaldehyde, formaldehyde, polyformaldehyde,
poly-ammonia ester, oxolane, stratiform silicate of soda, etc,
which can extend the industry chain and turn into the advantage
for industry.
High energy industries. Rich resource is an attracting advantage
in Ningxia and high energy industries have become cornerstone
industries in Ningxia. At present Ningxia has the capacity of
360 000 tons of electrolysis aluminum and the construction of
the capacity of 160 000 tons is under way. Qingtongxia Aluminum
Plant cooperated with Canada Aluminum Industry Group, which
makes the deep processing of coals, electricity, aluminum and
alloy integrated, and turns into a base of millions of tons
of aluminum. At the same time, it is also on the way of the
most advanced center of aluminum alloy through the world. With
the technical advantage of big alloy slice ingot with aluminium
to perform combined rolling and casting of aluminium-based alloy,
it will invest and develop in the field of motor units, train
cars, shuck of the electronic appliances,architectural adornment,
container and box freight train, etc.
Mechinery industry The mechinery industry has been a traditional
industry since 1960s.Now it has developed into an industry
with certain basis of industry. Its main products are machine
tool, bearing, crane, coal machinery, electrical machinery,
apparatus and meter, agricultural machinery, etc. In middle
1990s, it lost the competitive position because of lack of
technological development and disability of adapting the market.
Having realized the incompetitiveness, the machinery industry
of Ningxia began to reform its traditional way by employing
advanced technologies abroad, such as resin grit, cast steel
casting, digital controlled machine tool and industrial automation
meter, etc, which has made great achievement. The 1st intelligent
machine tool company in China has come into being by employing
advanced technology of digital controlled machine tool from
Japanese Mazark; The first rate of casting enterprise has
been build up with the technology of resin grit from U.S.,
Japan and UK. Simultaneously, the level and position of Ningxia
machinery industry have been greatly promoted by the investment,
advanced technology and advanced management from GE company
in the U.S., German INA Company, etc. Therefore, the application
of advanced technology to reform present machinery industry
and the efficient use of stock assets and resources have been
the focus of attracting business and investment in Ningxia.
There are many opportunities for trade and good potential.
Textile industry Ningxia is the major cashmere collecting
and distributing center of the whole nation. The circulation
surpasses 4 000 tons every year, occupying more than 1/3 of
the whole nation. Fur textile industry is a traditional industry
in Ningxia with prosperous history of development. It fell
into less favorable development condition during the late
of 1980s and the beginning of 1990s. The development of some

At present, 70% of the cashmere of the whole country is occupied
by Tongxin County in Ningxia. The industry Park of Tongxin

about 2 000 tons, occupying 25% of total capacity of the whole

cashmere sweaters annually. The development of high-grade
refined cashmere cloth has become an attracting industry for
investment.
Paper-making industry. Wheat hay and reed are rich in Ningxia,
which are cheap fiber raw materials for paper-making. With
the increase of quick-growing poplar and silkworm bases as
well as of the area of caragana microphylla planted in the
greening of deserted mountains, the material of wood pulp
is to be aboundant. Led by the Forest-Paper Integration Project
of Meili Paper-making Industry, the paper-making industry
is moving forward vigorously. At present, the annual output
of paper in the Region is 380 000 tons and will reach 1.6
million tons by 2010 according to the plan. The paper manufactured
in Ningxia is of good quality and varied variety, including
over 20 kinds in three series: cultural paper, living paper
and industrial packing paper. Ningxia has high potentials
of profit in the fields of construction of quick-growing forest
base, paper-making, printing, packaging and deep processing
of paper products.
Building materials industry: The definite storage of cement
ash stone is up to 520 million tons, and the predict storage
is up to 44.7 billion tons; the amount of gypsum is up to
1.36 billion tons, occupying 2nd in the northwest and the
6th in the world. Its predictable storage is up to 206 billion
tons. The definite storage of quartz is up to 15 million tons,
and its predictable storage is up to 1.6 billion tons. The
output of cement in the region is up to 4 941 300 tons till
the end of 2003. With the advantage of its rich resources,
the potential of developing building materials industry is
favorable. The future focus of developing cement is to support
the construction of the base of new mode of high-grade cement
chamotte of dry process with daily production of 2 000 tons.
The powder grinding stations are to be built up at the place
or market where there are compound materials. It is planned
to develop cement for special and exclusive use, for example,
for the use of water supply, transportation, petrol-chemical
industry and architecture and embellishment. Taking active
advantage use of industrial off-scum, such as colliery waste,
fly ash and cinder, the cement production will be gradually
developed in the trend of energy saving, taking use of waste
and protecting the environment with the adaptation of new
technology and industrial art. The bulk cement and commodity
beton are quickened to develop. Taking adequate use of rich
resources of high-quality gypsum, we are to take great steps
to develop stucco gesso, high intensity gesso, gypsum hollow
block, and make comprehensive use of gypsum plank. The future
aim is to cultivate gypsum industrial system with local characristics
and to raise the overall ability of competition of gypsum
industry of Ningxia. Taking some disadvantages in the field
of ceramic industry in the eastern China, such as inadequate
resource and high cost of energy, into consideration, associating
with predominant enterprises, we are to take the opportunities
of transference of the eastern industries to develop architectural
pottery and hygienical facilities in scales. The prospect
of developing high-grade float glass, new type of wall materials
and chemical architecture is favorable with great potential
of investment to a certain extent.
Special medicine. Chinese medicine resource is rich in Ningxia.
There are 350 kinds of Chinese medicine in Ningxia which have
come into the pharmacopoeia, among which there are 50 kinds
of infinity. The famous kinds of Chinese medicine here are
wolfberry, licorice root, bitter bean, Chinese ephedrine,
Trigonenella feonum-gracum,Astragalus mongholicus,radix stellariae
dichotomae, Cistanche salsa, cynomorium songaricum,scabish,
etc.. It is projected to plant 1 million mu Chinese medicine
of GAP norm and 3 to 5 million mu fenced cultivated Chinese
medicine. The resource of the Chinese medicine grown in the
sand is very famous both at home and abroad for its distinct
medical efficiency. As the national protected, it is one of
the three largest national level industrial modernized bases
of Chinese medicine. Riginal habitat of lycium, the planting
area is up to 300 000 mu.It has already exploited 10 categories
and over 60 kinds of race hygiene conservancy products and
medicine which are made of lycium, such as lycium wine, lycium
multi-sugar capsule, lycium pill, lycium pill, lycium juice,
lycium tea, lycium coffee, etc. 13 kinds of alkaloid extracted
from Sophra alopecuroide have been gained 10 patents, among
which Marineinjecta and Marine capsule have been sold through
the whole country. The plant of the Cistanche artificially
which has been a key problem of scientific research of the
national “tenth five-year plan” has come to an end, which
accumulated lots of precious experience for saving rare Chinese
medicine. Likewise, the extraction and deep processing of
the medicine from animals have been made great progress. With
dry weather, rich resources and cheap energy, and advanced
fermentation technology, Ningxia has developed into one of
the most important bases for producing of raw antibiotics.
The technology of producing hydrochloric acid tetracycline
is leading in the national level with the production capacity
of 4 000 tons, occupying 80% of the whole world. The annual
production of erythromycin will be up to over 2 000 tons,
occupying the 1st in the world. At the same time, relying
on the advantages of rich resources and nationality characteristics,
the exploitation of the Hui medicine shows good trends and
becomes an attracting field for the investors.
